“Be loud about the things that are important to you.” 📣 ~Karen Walrond
Earlier this week, I was chatting with one of my coaching clients who was struggling with motivation.
I mentioned to her that sometimes the lack of motivation could come from exhaustion or burnout, and it might be helpful to step away from the situation a bit. To take a break or to alternatively, do some boring tasks.
Another question I asked her was, “What’s your why?” We all start our businesses or creative projects for a purpose. Sure, it may be money-motivated, but often, the reason goes deeper than that. It could be about making an impact, serving a particular group of folks, living out a lifelong passion, or something else entirely. But on those days, you struggle to find motivation; it might be helpful to remember why you started.
After some reflection, my client remembered a larger vision she had in mind for her work. It’s got me thinking.
When I started my business, the goal was to share knowledge that could help folks start their businesses. But, since then, I’ve realized that it goes deeper than that. I want people to lead more fulfilled lives. And often, they can do that by exploring passion projects and side hustles. This way, you can try things you’ve always wanted to do and diversify your income streams.
I genuinely believe that you don’t need to quit your day job to be an entrepreneur. And my work is about helping people realize that and supporting them along the way with encouragement, resources, and lessons learned from my journey.
What is your why?
Why did you start your business?
What impact are you hoping to make?
These are essential questions to resurface and reflect on every once in a while. It may get you thinking too.

🪄 Tool: Readwise. I love getting emails that remind me of quotes I highlighted from books I’ve read over the years. Sometimes they are what I need to read at that time. And often, they give me some great quotes to share on social media.
📺 Watching: P!nk: All I Know So Far Documentary. I have not watched this yet but have heard excellent things about it. Can’t wait to check it out this weekend.
🎧. Listening: Of Course I’m Not OK: Living a Life of Yes with Saya Hillman. This is a great interview, and I’m not saying that just because Saya is my gurl (she is!), but it’s a good reminder that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing and that you get to define success for yourself. Fave quote: “You have to know who you are, and then you want to create scenarios where you are comfortable being that person.”

10 Ways to Raise Your Productivity Today — dariusforoux.com
There are some common ideas here on raising your productivity, like meditating, exercising, turning off notifications. What I love about Darius’s approach is his timeframes. For example, he suggests you meditate twice a day, but for a total of 15 minutes. And he journals for 5 minutes a day. That seems a lot more manageable than what you typically see in terms of productivity advice.
Just say to yourself: “I’ll journal for 5 minutes. Just 5 minutes. If I feel like writing more, then I’ll continue. But if not, then as long as 5 minutes is up, I’m done.” Just taking a few minutes to write down what’s on your mind will help you to focus on what actually matters.
When You Want to Have a Hot Girl Summer but Don’t Know How — zora.medium.com
“Having a hot girl summer is about having permission to feel good in my own skin and enjoy myself while doing so. Beyond that, it can mean different things for different women. So, maybe my hot girl summer will include not working as much, traveling more, and taking more time to engage in self-care. …Accepting who I am and embracing what I am comfortable with has been instrumental in me being a little more relaxed. I realize I have nothing to prove to anyone.”
I may be too old to understand what “hot girl summer” means, but what I love about this article is the more profound message about living life on your terms and rejoining society in a way that makes sense for you.
