What might your body need right now? (#343)
I cut my finger on Monday and sobbed for a good ten minutes. 🥺 It wasn’t that I was in pain or anything (at that moment anyway). It was just one more thing on top of a pile of other little things that had been growing, and I needed some release.
“The body gets what the body needs.” ~Nir Eyal
While crying didn’t wipe out all the heaviness I’ve been feeling lately, especially with #caregiverlife, it was a baby step in the right direction.
And then, finger-wise, it turns out the cut wasn’t too deep, but based on where it is, I need to keep my left index finger straight so it can properly heal.
The universe often gives us nudges to slow down and will shove us when we don’t listen. 😜 So I took my little injury as an opportunity to take a beat and:
Prioritize sleep and other forms of rest (did you know there are seven types?) when and where I can.
Type slowlyyyy - also, thank goodness for autocorrect and Grammarly.
Use dictation when I remember that it’s there. Dictation on the Mac is just OK to me. The iPhone version seems much better. 🤷🏾♀️
move some lower-priority tasks to next week.
Recognize that this is a season of lower capacity for me, with caregiving being incredibly challenging.
Use this moment to check in with yourself. What does your body need? What do you need? In what ways can you give that to yourself today?

🎧. Listening: Small Daily Wellness Habits That Make a Big Difference. Loved this podcast episode from Balanced Black Girl. She talks about some small things you can do daily to stay energized and well-rested. I loved her suggestion of consuming less (for example, reading one book at a time or only listening to one podcast episode a day.)
📚. Reading: Meditations for Women Who Do Too Much. My gurl Vanessa gifted me this book (thank you!!), and I’m already in love. Each day, there is a quote and passage to read that provides comfort and insight but also is a nice couple of minutes to pause, check in with myself, and breathe.

How to Quit Your Job and Build an Online Business
You know that I am not a fan of quitting your day job before you are ready, if at all. Being ready can mean different things to different people. But if that is something you are interested in doing, ask yourself: “What can I start doing today to get ready to quit my job in the future?”

You Can Be More Than One Thing
Especially love this part:
“We can all do and enjoy several different roles. We can test and experiment with possible selves. We can choose the one or some that work for our life.”
