“I got a new attitude and a lease on life and some peace of mind.” 😎~Macklemore
Hiiiiiiiiii 👋🏾 Did you miss me?
Thank you so much for your support and encouragement for my June joy break. A few things I did during my newsletter mini-sabbatical:
🧑🎨 Saw Van Gogh immersive exhibit (it was aaaaa-mazing)
🧘🏾♀️Tried a yoga class (and fell over during a warrior pose transition, in true Jess fashion 😆. In other words, I crushed it!)
💆🏾♀️ Got a deep tissue massage. GLORIOUS.
👩🏾🏫 Learned all about my Human Design during a session with my coach, and it’s blowing my mind. Something I’m still processing, and I may have more to say about this in the future. I’m a Generator if you’re curious.
🧩 Finished up a puzzle based on this print!
All in all, the time away gave me some much-needed white space to think about things. No major epiphanies or anything, but I got some good perspective. Most of all, I found myself missing you. 💖 And I missed sending you the value and inspiration that you hopefully get from these issues. That helps me realize that my work with #jesspicks is not done yet. (tbh, it was something I was considering). And I want to experiment with some new ways to help you build those passion projects and manage them alongside your other commitments.
Speaking of experiments! I signed up for Racket - a tool that lets you make quick audios. But I have no idea what to do for my first audio. Is there anything I can answer for YOU? Ask Me Anything! Or email me your question. It could be fun!
How has your June been? Any fun outings? Any insights? Hit reply and let me know. I’d love to hear from you.
On to the picks!

#loves 😍
📺. Watching: Mare of Easttown. Kate Winslet as a cop investigating a small-town mystery. SO GOOD. A bit dark with some funny moments (especially with her and her character’s mom). Twisty-turny. Five stars!
🎧. Listening: Drama Queens. Any fellow One Tree Hill fans out there? Well, Brooke (Sophia Bush), Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz), and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) have reunited and created a podcast full of OTH memories and high school nostalgia. Here for it. 🙌🏾
🗓. Tool: yourweek.app. During the pandemic, I got into bullet journaling and like the idea of writing daily tasks. And using that in combo with Google Calendar for appointments. This app also helps me do some high-level weekly planning. I love how simple it is. Dare I say I have found my task management trifecta?

Read This If You’re Struggling To Grow Your Audience — joshspector.com
“If you’re struggling to grow your audience, it’s not because you suck.
(Probably.)
It’s more likely because you misunderstand how audiences work.”
Wow. Josh Spector brought up five points about audiences in this post that made me clutch my invisible pearls.
Especially how most people approach their audience like it’s a concert when it’s more like a dinner party, and it’s essential to build relationships and get to know them. 🤯 So many gems...
5 Minute Joy Breaks Can Bolster Your Wellbeing — goodhartphotographyva.com
I first heard the term “joy breaks” from Angela Goodhart, and I was instantly a fan.
In this post, she talks about what they are, why they are good for you, how she has added them to her day (as part of her Pomodoro work sessions), and gives some examples to get you started.
“This emphasis on small is important. Joy breaks are not a big thing that requires a big investment of time, energy, or money. They’re small, personally meaningful gifts to yourself, so they are almost always manageable and doable.”
