“I hope you feel free to do the things that feel like a balm to your heart.” 💖 ~Morgan Harper Nichols
Last week wasn’t the best week. First, I was dealing with a lot of shoulder pain, and then after hearing the Roe versus Wade news, I just hit an emotional wall and decided to skip a week for #jesspicks.
The Supreme Court decision is heartbreaking, and I’m terrified of what it means for this country’s future, specifically what it means for me as a black woman in this country. It is heavy, and I don’t think that feeling will fade soon. You may feel the same way. And if you need to rest, please rest. If you need to cry and scream, please give yourself the space to do that.
And then show up in whatever way fits within your life. There are many ways to do that, and not everyone will do this the same way. You can protest. You can donate. You can run for office. You can vote. Contribute in a way that makes sense for you. But please, please protect yourself (tip: Paige Worthy) because I feel this situation will worsen before it gets better.
For now, I am focusing on healing and prioritizing self-care and movement in my world so I can better show up for those I care about, including you. I’m not sure what that will mean for the newsletter, potentially a summer break coming here soon. But I will keep you posted.

🎧. Listening: Why Email Marketing is Simply Building Connections with People. Liz Wilcox, who runs Email Marketing Membership, talks about her $9/month no-brainer offer and takes us on a journey of how this came to be. She believes email marketing can be simple, fun, and profitable (I agree!). She also talks about embracing small talk to build relationships with your audience. Great episode that I want to listen to again.
📖. Reading: A week in the life of Lizzy. One of my favorite biz mentors, Elizabeth Goddard, let us into her behind the scenes in an enjoyable way. She used a Google doc to live document her days, juggling being a mom and business owner. What I most enjoyed was learning how she makes decisions about what to tackle, how she thinks about running her business, and how she takes time to watch TV and listens to podcast episodes. It went a long way in helping me realize that sometimes you can’t get it all done, which is OK. That it’s great to have help, and rest is super important. Highly recommend!

7 Hacks I Learned From 'Atomic Habits' That Changed My Life–And Will Change Yours Too — theeverygirl.com
“Oftentimes, we look at athletes or successful business leaders and wonder how they got to where they are and how they accomplished so much. The answer is that they started small and never stopped.”
This article spoke to me this week as I keep getting little nudges to add more movement to my days. I’ve used the two-minute rule to start doing two minutes of jumping jacks every day and let me tell you, it’s not easy. But it’s a start, and the habit is small enough that I can see it being something I can do consistently.
