"If you want to be great, you must first believe that you can be." ~Serena Williams
The highlight of this week has to be the Ladies Get Paid event that I participated in on Tuesday night. Because of its format, which was more like a town hall instead of a panel, the speakers shared very honest and vulnerable stories like dealing with toxic situations, asking for raises and feeling discriminated against at work to name a few.
What became clear is that part of getting paid what we are worth has to do with first understanding our own self-worth and value. Then we can speak up about it and ask to be compensated and treated in a way that reflects that. Easier said than done, I know but I believe this organization will help this narrative. They've built a Slack group filled with over 4,000 women that are sharing tips and resources and experiences of negotiating new salaries, asking for raises and dealing with bullies. There are also posts about jobs, getting mentors and finding vendors. If this sounds like something you could use, definitely sign up. Once you join their mailing list, you'll get an invite to the free Slack group. I am lurking in there now. 👩🏾💻
In other news, I'm REALLY feeling some extreme overwhelm. So I am trialing a Virtual Assistant (VA) service to help me write some tweets for my blog posts. I generally can write good 1-2 tweets to promote a blog post, but after that, I struggle with finding other creative ways to say "check out my post". I'm using this tool where I'm able to get a dedicated VA, Sasha, to help me for 3 hours a month.
On the task management front, I tried Todoist before but that didn't last long and I went back to writing things down on post-it notes. So now I'm trying Asana. I am thinking this one will be a keeper, especially on the day job front. I also like how it has a Trello-ish format if you prefer to see things laid out in boards and cards. I wonder if my ideal solution will be some combination of digital and paper. 🤔
On to the picks of the week!
P.S. I'm off to celebrate my birthday this afternoon with a few friends and family. Cheers! 🥂

My tool of the week is a list of tools! How meta right? 🤣 Ran across this Bonsai tool which is great for time tracking and invoicing if you're a freelancer btw. But lots of tool suggestions for different needs from project management to payments.
