#jesspicks - Issue #10
I got a Fitbit Alta finally! I've been wanting one of these since I first heard the announcement because it's small and ka-yute as my mom would say. And yep it's purple!
Other perks that I love about it: it tells time! How many of you depend on your smartphone as your watch? I do! So now my Fitbit can help me out there. And if I don't make at least 250 steps every hour, I get a buzz. Yay for a reminder to get up and slowly step away from the computer.
In other news, I was on #ChicagonistaLIVE this week (whattt). It's a social talk show hosted by three awesome women that focuses on hot topics in Chicago. I was so honored to be asked and nervous because LIVE, but I had some great pep talks from some amazing friends (mwah!) And it went really well! I talked about helping women startups at my job and being a woman in tech (and not a coder). Also chatted about how Tech Biz Gurl came to be and of course gave a shout out to #jesspicks. Stay tuned for a replay.
In the midst of the good things, this week has also been very heavy. The world is falling apart and it's really hard to be positive in the face of all the hate and violence. People are angry. And rightly so. And I just think that most of us are looking for some way to do our part. I hope this newsletter adds a smile or a bright spot to your day. I hope that it helps make one thing easier, or better for you. Because you matter to me. xoxo
On to the picks for the week!

Say No to Everything That’s Not Aligned With Your Essential Priorities — medium.com
It all comes down to one question: "What if you said no to EVERYTHING that’s not aligned with your greater purpose?" Once you know what your greater purpose is, say yes to all of the things that will feed it. Everything else will take time away from what you're ultimately trying to do.
It’s When You Think You’re Not Ready That You Are — www.positivelypositive.com
This is true. But so hard. I struggle with this a lot (yep total perfectionist over here) and wonder if anything is ever ready. The truth is, even when you think you're ready, you're probably not. So just start it even though it's imperfect. You'll do it and then you'll learn and you'll do it even better the next time.

How To Get The Most Out Of Each Day — medium.com
I love these tips from the founder of @curlBOX - especially how she maximizes her Mondays by going into #BEASTMODE. And outsource the things you don't enjoy and use that time to do something for yourself or your business.
Twitter's Updating Its 140 Character Limit — blog.bufferapp.com
This post deep dives into what that means for you and 5 ways you can use this info to up your tweeting game. You don't have to put a period before the @ sign when replying anymore. I'm very happy about that one. And you can add images without them counting against your character limit (bonus!!).

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. ~Marianne Williamson
