#jesspicks - Issue #16 - Social Media Hacks, Being Present, & Staying Small + Consistent
Good news is that I did the Hot Chocolate Run last Sunday and I walked the whole thing! I was able to finish it in 53 minutes (yay!) and then indulged in all of the chocolate goodness.
Bad news is that I did the Hot Chocolate Run last Sunday and I was still sick from the previous week so I got a little worse (sad panda). A cynic would say, that's what you get for doing healthy, exercise-y things, right? :) Official word is that I have a sinus infection (I know right? Like again?) so I'm doing the antibiotic thing. My plan is to take it easy this weekend, rest and get caught up on shows (because seriously who did Annalise murder this season?)
I feel like I've been sick more this year than ever before so that may be my body's way of screaming at me to slow down. And self-care. I'm not sure what that looks like but I'm definitely limiting my evening activities a bit for the next couple weeks so hopefully that'll help. I am also really trying to be super intentional about the extra things I say yes to.
If you have any tips on making self-care more of a priority or slowing down, definitely hit reply and let me know.
On to the picks for the week!
P.S. Crushing on Kate Voegele's new album (especially this song) and can't wait to see her in concert next weekend!
One Reality You Must Accept Before You Can Live Your Best Life — www.marcandangel.com
This is all about living in the present moment and being where you are. It's so easy to want to capture every moment in a photo or share it on social media but sometimes it's enough to just be in the moment. There are also some great mantras included to remind you to be mindful. I especially like #6: "Don’t compare your progress with that of others. We all need our own time to travel our own distance."
12 Hacks to Get a Better Following on Social Media — www.lifehack.org
There are some great strategies in here. I make sure to use scheduling tools (#2) and share work from others (#10) but I haven't really considered guest posting (#12) and mentioning influencers and other bloggers (#1) so that could be something I think about for 2017. Which ones are you using?
Consistency + Smallness — byregina.com
I love how simple and complex this is at the same time. Regina tells us to stay consistent and stay small. Keep going. Take small steps every day. Enjoy the process of going through everything that you are going through. "Let the giants and the bullies be big. Yes, they’re hard to miss, but they’re also hard to miss." LOVE.
