“Life is not something that can be experienced on a deadline.” ⌛️~Amanda Lovelace
some weeks, you work from bed... (#365)
In a nutshell, this week has been A LOT. You know how it is; when you’re sick or just feeling generally unwell, it overshadows everything else.
It lowers your capacity.
It affects your sleep.
It decreases your patience and tolerance for things you’d probably otherwise handle like a champ.
Even caregiving.
Even work.
Even fun stuff.
It is truly one of these overwhelming seasons…
So what do you do then?
Well, first of all, you do this…
And then you do what jugglers do best.
You look at what is happening.
You figure out which balls can drop.
You re-prioritize, focusing on the most important, critical things - your health and whatever else might be most pressing.
So, for me, this looked like:
Doing a few fun things that I felt I had the capacity for earlier in the week - which involved latte cones and happy hour.
Saying no to other things just because I wasn’t feeling up to it with promises of rainchecks for the future.
Working from home a bit more so I could be nearby for grandma’s needs.
Legit worked from bed in many cases, which I have to say is such a privilege that I can work from anywhere. It’s soo helpful on weeks like this.
Ordering food since I didn’t feel like cooking. If you're curious, we’ve had Chinese food, fish, and pizza.
Trying to make some progress on my speaking homework. My goal is to get to 3 paid speaking gigs this year. If you know of any opportunities, I’d love to hear about them. Speaking topics to include side hustles, newsletters, and childhood hobbies as adults (thanks Saya!).
Why is this a priority when I’m not feeling well, you might ask? Building the foundation needed for speaking gigs and turning that into an income stream will create ease in other areas.
Putting 100% cotton sheets on my bed—I’ve always done a mixture, and it never really bothered me. But OMG, I don’t think I can go back to anything except 100% cotton now. It is the little things.
Taking one meeting by phone and making it a walking meeting to get some sun and fresh air.
Doing my best to manage all the work things and triaging and asking for help as much as possible. This also looked like trying to determine what needed to be done ASAP and what could wait.
I plan to rest this weekend and keep my fingers crossed that I’ll feel better next week. But if not, I’ll do more of the same:
More care. More prioritizing. More grace. More baby steps. ❤️🩹

Let’s Chat!
Note: A reader suggested this idea and I liked it a lot, so I’m game to try it as an experiment. I love the way that Chris does this in newsletter in that he suggests a few questions so that people can pick one or answer all, so I’ll try something similar:
How do you handle your work/life/biz when you are not feeling well?
What type of season are you in right now?
What song is stuck in your head?
On to the picks!

📺. Watching: Nancy Drew. The girl detective series that aired on the CW. But darker - think ghosts and all kinds of supernatural happenings. I never finished watching the series, so I’m starting at the beginning.
🧰. Tool: My Resources Page. Curious about what I use to manage all the business and life things? It’s on this page. Anything else I should add?

Jessica Lackey talks about three categories of businesses with seven example business models:
The Delivery Model Businesses - delivering a service.
The Creator Model Businesses - creating and distributing content based on your point of view.
I relate more to this category, specifically the Edu-Tainer.
The Brcjand Model Businesses - delivering your frameworks or selling your intellectual property.
Which business model are you? Or which one would you like to create?
