Hellooooo from Substack... 👋🏾
Happy 2023! And I hope you had a great end to last year. My focus for the past few weeks has been finding a new home for #jesspicks, as Revue is shutting down this month and taking a much-needed break from work and the business.
Not to mention celebrating the over 800 new subscribers that have joined the #jesspicks community from my participation in Lizzy’s Christmas Party! 🎉
If I’m being honest, the news about Revue affected me more than I thought it would and caused a lot of stress to find something comparable for the future. The popular newsletter options seemed to be ConvertKit, Beehiiv, and Substack. However, after reviewing those, Substack emerged as the clear choice for a few reasons:
The migration process was very seamless (not only did it import my subscribers but all 300+ issues of my content)
Creating an issue is similar to Revue, and familiarity rocks.
I already had two new subscribers within 15 minutes of setting it up - sooo the idea of having more discoverability is très cool.
It is simple! Sometimes the more options I have, the harder it can be, if that makes sense.
Excited to continue exploring Substack and its features over the coming weeks. If there is anything you know like to see, hit reply or leave a comment (new feature alert!!) and let me know.

New Year, Same Me?
This time of year can feel overwhelming as folks are setting goals, declaring words, and probably have their whole year planned out.
I am not quite there yet.
And it’s OK if you aren’t, either.
In recent years, January has been my month to ease into the year, reflect and do some dreaming and scheming. I know the answers will come once I give myself that space.
Take the time if you need it. And if you are feeling like you can use some guidance on saying goodbye to 2022 and welcoming the new year, here’s a resource I’m using that may be helpful for you too:

📖. Tool: Readwise Reader. Pocket (the read it later app) and Feedly (an app to read all your blogs in one place) had a beautiful highlighting baby. If you remember Google Reader from back in the day, this is a very close comparison. This free (for now) tool is a perfect one-two punch for keeping up on the content you want to follow and saving it to read later. This post sold me on it.
📺. Watching: A Peek Inside The Mind Of A Productivity Expert. Love this conversation between Josh Spector and Khe Hy. They talk about the concept of $10,000 work versus $10 work, work/life harmony (not balance), and how Khe has built a business where he can surf every day (which is super important to him). What I’m thinking about: what could be some of my $10K tasks as I think about my job/biz/career? And if I only have a couple of hours to work on my biz every week, where should I focus? #jesspicks is one for sure. But what else can I spend time on? 🤔

Why creators are in less of a rush to quit their day jobs
“For them, the day job is a feature, not a bug, and they don’t have dreams of working in coffee shops and trapezing around the globe. They’re perfectly fulfilled creating their content on nights and weekends, and any revenue they generate from that content is just an added bonus.”
I love Simon’s post about this because it highlights some benefits of a side hustle: diversifying income, daily structure, and collaborating with others. I think there are some of us (🙋🏾♀️) that love our day jobs but also want to have something of our own. The #sidehustlelife allows us to have the best of both worlds; as you can see, there are positives to consider. What do you think?
