Some seasons change what we’re able to say yes to...(#456)
One of my dance friends texted me this week and asked, “Does tomorrow at 3:00 pm still work for line dancing?” I said “Yep!”
It struck me later that the interesting part wasn't even the dancing.
It was how easy it was to say yes.
If I were working right now, I probably still could’ve gone. But it would’ve looked different.
There would’ve been a whole conversation happening in my head first.
What’s on my calendar?
Can I leave early?
What still needs to get done?
Will I be rushing the whole time?
Instead… I just went and had a great time.
Then I started thinking about a few other moments over the past few weeks:
Taking my grandma to doctor’s appointments without feeling like we had to rush back home.
Saying yes to a Thursday afternoon musical because the matinee tickets were cheaper.
Spending way too much time working on a puzzle because there was nowhere else I needed to be. (Zero regrets.)
They all had one thing in common.
They felt...uncomplicated.
And I don’t think I realized how much I’d missed that feeling until I had it again.
Somewhere along the way, I’d gotten used to every “yes” requiring its own little planning session.
So it was really nice when it didn’t.

Now, I know this season isn’t going to last forever.
Eventually, there will be another job. The calendar will fill back up.
Life will get busy in different ways.
But one thing I hope I hang onto from this season is the reminder that not everything has to feel rushed.
Sometimes it’s nice to have a little more room.
Room to say yes.
Room to stay a little longer.
Room to enjoy the thing while you’re in it.

📝. A journaling prompt to play with: “What does a perfect day look like?” (from Justin Welsh’s solopreneur strategy) Use it as a gentle filter, especially on foggy days. What drains you? What energizes you? Build your biz (and your to-do list) around those answers.
⏰. How to Stop Procrastinating by Using the “2-Minute Rule.” You know those days when even starting feels overwhelming? This article is for those days. Instead of “working out,” put on your shoes. Instead of “writing,” open the document. Small? Yep. But sometimes baby steps are exactly what you need to get moving.
☕️. Tiny anchors. This article introduced me to a phrase I immediately wanted to borrow. Tiny anchors are those little moments, rituals, or routines that help ground us when life feels busy or uncertain. Mine? Dance class. Puzzles. A good book. Morning coffee. What’s one of yours?
To the untrained observer, my morning beverage may look like bean water in a cup, but to me, it’s actually something more profound. It’s a tiny anchor, lending a bit of certainty and familiarity to uncertain days. It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference.

This is really beautiful, even in an uncertain season. Though it was such a hard time for so many reasons, this reminds me of many of my days during covid - and I miss the pace in the busy-ness of life now.
