“Seemingly small moments of gratitude can change everything.” 🤗 ~Greg McKeown
For those in the states, I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and spending time with family and friends.
While I am trying to express gratitude more often throughout the year, this is always an excellent time to reflect and say thank you.
Thank you for subscribing.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for replying.
Thank you for buying me coffee.
Thank you for letting me know that my words matter.
Thank you for buying ads and sponsorships.
Thank you for spreading the word.
Thank you for supporting me in other ways.
You are the reason I continue to send this newsletter every week. While it is helpful and sometimes therapeutic for me, I hope that there is something in each issue you can walk away with --
Whether that’s a new tv show to watch, a new song to listen to, or a new tool to try, maybe it’s a helpful article that you needed to read that day or a new way of thinking about a challenge. On the other hand, it could simply be a gentle nudge to keep going.
Thank you for being a part of my world. You matter to me. 💖
On to the picks!
P.S. Just a heads up that after #jesspicks #262 (2 more after this one), I’ll be taking the rest of the year off to reflect and do some planning for 2022. I hope that you are planning time off for yourself and your business/newsletter/projects as well.

#poll
I’m experimenting with polls as a way to get to know you better. Let me know what you think.
How do you describe yourself:

🎧. Listening: This is Christmas. I don’t usually listen to Christmas music until the day after Thanksgiving. Same with movies. Granted, it’s not a hard and fast rule, but something I like to do. In addition to what’s usually playing on the radio, this is one of my all-time favorite Christmas albums. I mean, you can’t go wrong with Luther Vandross. Tracks 2-4 are often on repeat.
📺. Watching: Wheel of Time. I don’t know much about this other than the fact that Rosamund Pike is in it. And the preview looked mysterious. But there is darkness and one person who can save the world. It seems like it may be one out of 4 people, and part of the mystery will be figuring out who is the chosen one. Oh, and there’s MAGIC. Only watched the first episode so far, but I’m already curious about what will happen next.
💸 Resource: DeFi Orientation. So I keep hearing about crypto and blockchain and bitcoin and all the things. And my main gig is very heavy into the decentralized finance space. Nat Eliason created a course about getting started in DeFi and just made some updates. I have already made some investments and am curious to see how those pan out, but this seems like a viable passive income stream.

20 Things To Do Instead of Scrolling Through Your Phone — medium.com
I’m a big fan of micro habits (and hacks) and implementing ones that make the most sense for my lifestyle and the season I’m in right now. I am guilty of reaching for my phone and mindlessly scrolling social media when I’m bored, so I like these ideas of other things to do instead. Here are the three principles I liked best:
Create before you consume - I think I would feel better about scrolling, knowing I created something first.
Visit your metaphorical “Cabin in the Woods” - I like this idea of spending time with my thoughts and giving myself the white space to think through and process things.
Spend evenings in a flow state - this is a big part of why I’m getting back into doing puzzles and LEGO sets. I can spend hours working on these and not realize how much time has passed.
What It Takes To Build A Successful Creator Business — joshspector.com
Josh Spector gives 13 fantastic pieces of advice in short video snippets. I’ve watched five of them so far, and my current fave is: Getting More Value Out Of Your Content. A thing that’s on my 2022 list is figuring out a good repurposing strategy to get more value out of the content I create and curate in #jesspicks every week.

😍. Last issue’s top pick was: Nine Micro Life Hacks I Found on Reddit (That Are Surprisingly Useful)
