a few thoughts on balance... (#372)
Next week, I'm excited to be doing my first paid speaking engagement of the year! I'll be sharing my experience and practical tips on how to launch a side hustle without burning out, for an audience of folks who are "side curious" (coined by the fabulous CloBare, thanks for the inspiration!).
Many of us dream of starting a side hustle, but the fear of burnout can hold us back. Here are some tips from my own journey that might be helpful for you (and yes, I plan to share these during my talk!):
Get honest about the amount of time you have. If I only have 30 minutes to work on my business on any given day, that’s okay. I’ve learned that you can get a lot done in a 15-minute session.
Break down tasks into small, manageable steps. If I have a task to do, I try to break it down into baby steps. Or, in cases where I’m stuck, I try to determine the next action I can take to move things forward.
Redefine success on your terms. I’ve stripped down my side hustle and added on things when I have the capacity. If I’m getting this newsletter out every week, I consider that a win. If I also blog or manage to get some other tasks done, that’s a bonus.
Embrace flexibility (and grace). Priorities shift. Sometimes things have to wait, and that’s OK. Be kind to yourself throughout the journey.
What else am I missing? Share your favorite tip for balancing a side hustle with your main job.
On to the picks!
P.S. Do you consider self-care and adventure to be similar? Or different? I’m noodling on another talk idea and as someone juggling multiple things, are you looking for help getting more of either in your life? Join the convo:

💰. App: Fetch and Ibotta. If you do a lot of in-store grocery shopping, like me, save your receipts and scan them to earn points/money. With Fetch, you scan the receipt, earn points, and redeem the points for gift cards. With Ibotta, you get cash back on your purchases.
📚. Reading: Meditations for Women Who Do Too Much. My gurl Vanessa gifted me this book (thank you!!) and I am getting back into the habit of reading again. Each day, there is a quote and passage to read that provides comfort and insight but also is a nice couple of minutes to pause, check in with myself, and breathe.

How to Make Peace with Your Incomplete Tasks
“At the end of each day, take 5 minutes to write down any unfinished tasks or nagging thoughts. Next to each item, note a specific next step you can take to move forward.
Important: make this step as small as possible.”
