Dealing with change and figuring out the next right step (#319)
Ever heard the expression, “the only constant is change”? I got lots of c-c-changes happening right now.
💪🏾.The promotion.
First, a bit of fantastic news. I was promoted to manager of my team recently. Such an incredible opportunity, but a lot of information is coming my way. And if I’m being super honest, as I tend to do here, impostor syndrome is rearing its ugly head multiple times a day.
Don’t get me wrong. This promotion is a good thing (I said a very nervous/excited yes), and I know it’s the right move. But with any new role, I realize that adjusting and finding a new rhythm will take some time.
📦. The potential move.
Me and grandma may be moving(?). Moves are super stressful. And while we wouldn’t have to move until the end of May, we essentially have to decide either way by the end of March.
📊. The retiring software.
The bookkeeping system I moved to after GoDaddy Bookkeeping shut down is also shutting down. 😭 So I’m on the hunt to find another super simple solution because Quickbooks intimidates me in a big way.
As I think about the future, there are also a few other things on my mind and heart. So I am in this weird limbo space which is not my favorite. AT ALL.
I mean…
When things are overwhelming, there are so many directions we could go, but it is so helpful to ask ourselves:
What’s the next right step? (Even if it’s a baby step)
For me, it has been:
Giving myself lots of grace with the new role because it will take some time to step into it fully.
Setting up some searches on Zillow to see what apartment situations are available for exploring.
Starting a list of bookkeeping platforms and signing up for trials. (Let me know if you have any recommendations!)
Asking people for help/advice to figure out some of the other stuff.
The answers and clarity will come, but in the meantime, I’m focusing on self-care (dancing, stretching, sleep) and finding that next right baby step.
How do you deal when you’re confronted with a lot of change? Or feeling overwhelmed?

📺. Watching: Girls5eva: This girl group show featuring Sara Bareilles and Renee Elise Goldberry popped back on my radar, and I’ve been enjoying it the past couple of weekends. The songs are ridiculous, but I love the messages around recapturing something that brought these women joy and reclaiming that for their 40s. But also balancing it with kids, relationships, jobs, etc.
🧳. Tool: My Resources Page. Curious about what I use to manage all the business and life things? It’s on this page. Anything else I should add?

Entrepreneur: Shelley Aniciete
Biz: Athletic AF
A few tidbits:
Shelley was able to get her first clients for her fitness/nutrition coaching business by posting consistently on social media
Her advice: “Play the long game. Don’t try to grow a huge business immediately.”
What she’s learned along the way: It’s more than just “growing a business”, instead it’s “growing into someone” who can do business in a way that works for you.

This: “As I think about the future, there are also a few other things on my mind and heart. So I am in this weird limbo space which is not my favorite. AT ALL.”
This was WAYY too relatable. You finally put that feeling into words!
But I love your approach at dealing with stuff - I’ve noticed how you always stress on taking baby steps and pacing yourself according to what suits you best. And I love that.
It’s great to learn things step-by-step till you eventually find your groove (dancers much? ;) 🤜🏻🤛🏻).
Thanks again, for a wonderful issue. ✨
Congrats on the promotion! I have the same opinion of QuickBooks...and I have to use it for one of my businesses. But the other business I manage myself and I use https://www.waveapps.com so I am seconding what Amelia said!
