“You’ve always had the power my dear…” 🌈 ~The Wizard of Oz
maybe what’s obvious to you is amazing to somebody else. (#449)
Over the years, I’ve noticed something interesting. The things people come to me for aren’t always the obvious things.
Not:
“How do I make more money?”
Or:
“How do I market this?”
Usually it’s more like:
How do I make this fit my life?
Am I thinking about this the right way?
Do you know a resource for this?
What would you do?
Sometimes people want clarity. Sometimes encouragement.
Sometimes they just want someone to help untangle something that feels messy.
And for a long time, I underestimated those things. Because they came naturally. And I thought everybody could do them. (spoiler: not everybody does.)
And I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately.
About how easy it can be to overlook the things that make us… us.
The weird interests.
The thing friends always ask us about.
The patterns we notice.
The way we explain things.
The energy we bring into a room.
The thing we can talk about for way too long without getting bored. 😅
Because I think we spend so much time focused on what we need to learn next…
That we miss the things we’ve already been carrying around all along.
For me, that looks like:
collecting resources and sharing why they matter
connecting dots between things that may not seem related
helping people feel seen
breaking overwhelming things into smaller steps
making things feel a little lighter
For years, those didn’t feel like skills. They just felt like personality traits.
They just felt like me.
And maybe that’s the point.
Because over time, I’ve realized that me is part of what makes this work.
Not just what I know. Not just what I do.
Me. My upbringing, my highs, my lows, my perspective.
Me.
And I wonder if the same is true for you.
Maybe your thing is making people laugh. Or:
Organizing chaos.
Listening.
Encouraging.
Researching.
Design.
Cooking.
Planning trips.
Remembering details.
Finding weird solutions.
Maybe it sounds ordinary because you’ve always done it.
But what’s obvious to you may be amazing to others.
Y is for You 💞✨
(because you’re part of the equation too)
If you needed one… here’s your reminder to pay attention to the things you dismiss.
The things that feel so natural you don’t even think about them.
The things you assume everybody can do. Because… not everybody can.
You don’t have to become someone different to build something meaningful.
Sometimes the best thing you can offer others is… you.

💬 Over to you: What’s something people naturally come to you for?
(And bonus points if it’s something you usually dismiss with: “Oh, that? Anybody could do that.”)
On to the picks! ✨
P.S. Plot twist: I was laid off this week, so this particular message is very close to my heart right now. I shared a bit about what I’m looking for next. If you know of roles needing someone who’s calm in chaos, great with people + projects, and good at making messy things feel manageable… hi, it’s me. 👋🏾
