Shout-out and thanks to everyone who answered my #jesspicks survey. π Loved reading about your favorite parts of the newsletter and what you'd like to see in the future. I'll be noodling on that over the next few weeks as I start planning for 2021.
This week started out rough. I was finally able to see an allergist this week to figure out what's been causing my reactions. But that meant I wasn't able to take allergy meds for 3 whole days. Let me tell you, it was not fun. π
Getting tested was a good news/bad news situation. Good news? I'm not allergic to nuts! Which is what I thought was causing the reaction. So yay. Bad news? All the other tests came back negative. (Although technically that is good news too) But I may be having some unexplained allergic reactions which apparently is a thing. #whoknew. So for now, two Zyrtec a day keeps the reactions away. π€πΎ
Other big happening this week? MY PODCAST EPISODE WITH TARA MCMULLIN IS OUT!! ππΎ I'm super all the caps excited about this one because this is the first podcast I've done talking exclusively about #jesspicks and being a newsletter curator. We talked about how it got started, my workflow and process for getting it done every week, and how it's helped build my confidence as a writer.
On to the picks!
P.S. I'm thinking about adding a small classified section at the bottom of the newsletter. Short, simple ads. Maybe 2-3 each week. They'd start at $10 each. Would you place an ad? If so, hit reply and let me know.

πΊ Watching: THE HOOD INTERNET Presents 1993. This is 3.5 minutes of 90s music nostalgia. I dare you to watch it and not smile.
π Reading: Playing Big. I'm reading this book a little at a time as I go through training to become a Playing Big Facilitator. ππΎ For the next few weeks, we are talking about the inner critic. And Tara has given us a new way of thinking about that sometimes nagging, negative voice in our head. She says, "it's like a guard at the edge of your comfort zone" that activates when there is a threat to our emotional safety. And really we need to learn how to acknowledge it, and say, "thanks but I've got this". Powerful. π€―
βοΈ Tool: Buy Me a Coffee. If you are looking for a way to monetize your creations even if you are just getting started, this is the perfect way to go. You can set up a page in a few minutes, share your link with folks and give them the opportunity to support you. And I have to plug my page too, right? π It's here.

7 Ways Your Side Hustle Can Supercharge Your Day Job β thelipstickandink.com
"Donβt be afraid to share your gifts with the world!"
Kelly Nash and I are side hustler kindred spirits. We've never met in real life but I kinda feel like we have. Love her latest post about the benefits of a side hustle.
My faves:
Increased network (having a side hustle has definitely introduced me to so many new people I wouldn't have met otherwise)
Improved confidence (I run a thing of my own making! it does wonders for how I feel about myself)
Better time management (trying to juggle side hustle + day job + life almost forces you to be a productivity ninja!)
Hereβs Your Permission to *Enjoy* Being Bad at Something β advice.theshineapp.com
ο»Ώ"We should revel in the joy of doing things we will never master."
When was the last time you did something just because you enjoyed it? For me, that's dancing. I'm terrible at it but it brings me and my soul sooo much joy. And granted I'm not going to do Reels or post it all over social media (although I did that one time, check my Insta highlights if you want to see it).
Now I know this newsletter is about side hustles, but it's also about you getting to choose your lifestyle. And this is a reminder that we don't have to a) make money at everything or b) be good at everything. It's OK to do something just because it's fun or it might be fun even if you suck at it. Let's all give ourselves permission to chase our joy!
