how I do: #jesspicks was awesome! 🤩 (#341)
I did the How I Do: #jesspicks training earlier this week, and it was a blast! I had about 10 folks who registered, and 7 folks attended live. 🎉
It was great to share all my lessons learned with newsletters over the years, and the attendees got some good nuggets out of it. Here are a couple of comments:
“This is the best explanation of curation ever. Thank you!”
Great webinar!
I cannot overstate how great it was to attend a webinar where I learned a lot and more than that, I walked away with some actionable steps that I could implement right away.
This was awesome!
It was so helpful!
I picked up some great tips and ideas to improve and round out my newsletter!
And if you feel like you missed it? You can grab the recording!
I’m not gonna lie - it feels really fantastic to have hosted a workshop and for it to have gone so well. I’m currently floating and basking in the win.
I even had a celebratory cocktail…
Doing something new and different can come with a lot of uncertainty, overwhelm, and discomfort, but ultimately it’s all part of this personal development journey we find ourselves on as entrepreneurs.
Whether it ends up a great experience or a meh experience, we’ll learn from it and take it to the next thing. And that makes it a win.
What win can you celebrate this week?
On to the picks!
P.S. Fun fact that I shared in the training: I often work on my newsletter backward, starting at the bottom and working my way to the top. This intro section and the subject lines are often the last things I write when putting an issue together.

Substack has updated their app to improve the reader experience, and I love some of the new features. Out of curiosity, how do you read #jesspicks?

📺. Watching: The 27-Hour Day. This Hallmark movie has been on my watchlist forever, and was finally able to check it out. An entrepreneur and podcast host of the 27 Hour Day, played by Autumn Reeser, finds herself needing a vacation to find some balance. She goes on a retreat and immediately finds it difficult to relax, but of course, there’s a handsome guy to help her. (It is Hallmark, after all! 😉) Sparks fly, and with time she begins to understand what’s most important to her life and work.
💃🏽. Fitness: Barbie Dance HIIT Workout. I ended up rewatching the Barbie movie this week as a nice treat to myself. And then found this YouTube workout inspired by the soundtrack. What I love about Emily’s approach is that you only have to learn two moves for each song (Tabata style), so there’s not a lot of choreography to remember. And each new song has two new moves. If you’re looking for a super fun, 20-ish-minute dance party, you’ll enjoy it too.

8 Expert Tips On Managing A Side Hustle From Those Who Do It
It’s always great to see folks who are working a 9-5 and also making time to work on passion projects that bring them fulfillment and $$$.
These nuggets definitely spoke to me:
“I remind myself that all the seemingly small steps I make each day are adding up to a bigger picture.” (baby steps!!)
“If my body asks for rest, sometimes I’ll take a midday nap. Knowing when to stop and rest, and when to push through is important.”
“Offer services, experiences, products, packages that are aligned with the way you love to work.”

8 essential questions you need to ask yourself
Scroll through these when you have a moment - there are some good ones. I especially like Rich’s question for prioritization:
“What’s the one thing I can do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary?”
