If I’m being honest, images like this make me feel personally attacked: 🫣
It’s amazing how one negative remark can throw off our day and make us question everything, sometimes our existence. It messes with our self-confidence and our ability to move forward. Because why even try, right?
But that’s only one small piece of the story. Often negative remarks have nothing to do with you and everything to do with the person that made them. And let’s be honest; it’s usually a lot easier to think of negatives than positives.
That’s why it’s essential to surround yourself with positivity - even if you have to deal with some no-good, very bad stuff; you can get helpful reminders of who you are, why you are doing this, and who is rooting for you to keep going.
This week I was working on some of my speaking homework from Coach Saya. And this section was my favorite:
I created a folder called “SMILE FILES” in my Apple iCloud and started screenshotting all the goodness I could find: high-fives from coworkers, reader comments from #jesspicks, and comments on Facebook posts.
Going through that process made me smile and feel good about myself. And it made me realize there are sooo many places I’ve gotten love over the years, and I’m looking forward to putting them all in one place. That way, I can browse through that folder when I need a pick-me-up or on those not-so-great days we often have as entrepreneurs.
And guess what? My coach shouted me out on FB!
Where is that screenshot going? If you guessed “SMILE FILES,” ding ding ding, you get a GOLD STAR! 🤩
It can be challenging to continue our work when confronted with negativity or when it seems like no one is clapping for us.
Trust me. Folks are watching you and being inspired.
💡 As a to-do for yourself this week, create your smile file and add at least five things.
Reply and let me know how it goes.

📺. Watching: The Last Thing He Told Me. Jennifer Garner in a mystery? Sold. She plays the wife of this guy who disappears mysteriously, leaving her a note to protect his daughter. What made him run? Is he who says he is? There is a rabbit hole to go down, along with some fun twists. Highly recommend this Apple TV show. It’s based on a book if you want to read it first.
🎧. Listening: What to Do with Random Pockets of Time. As side hustlers, we often feel we must use every minute, even random ones, like minutes between appointments. Kendra has a few suggestions: you can choose to rest or play or read or batch something, or do something that’ll move your work, business, or life goals forward. Take a listen to start noodling on ways to use random pockets of time. Also, if you want to hear other helpful podcast episodes for jugglers, I have a playlist!

I’m thinking through social media content for the next few months and will probably focus primarily on Instagram and Facebook, but I’m wondering which you use the most.

Last week, I was talking about how at what point you become a paid speaker. When doing anything, what does it take to make you feel ready? Dan Oshinsky has some great questions to help you figure that out:
Are you ready to ask lots of questions?
Are you ready to try new things?
Are you ready to make mistakes?
Are you ready to put together your team?
Are you ready to learn?
Congratulations. You’ll figure out the rest as you go — but you’re more than ready to start right now.
