#jesspicks - Issue #14 - Digital Skills, Being a Doer vs. CEO, & Recalibrating Life
This week I celebrated my one-year anniversary at my job. It's amazing how my scary leap into the unknown has totally paid off. I've learned so much and been exposed to so many opportunities in this past year. It's been an adventure that has involved getting out of my comfort zone and being a beginner again. But I wouldn't trade one bit of it. Because it has made me grow in ways that I couldn't have imagined. I can't wait to see what happens next!
To add to the awesomeness for this week, I was included in an article on Entrepreneur.com as one of four role models for girls in tech. I had tears in my eyes when I saw it because it's like "OMG, that's meeeee". (and yep I totally did a double take when I saw it) I'm a role model. Me. Eeek!! I am so humbled and honored to be included on the list with 3 other amazing women, including Chicago's very own CIO, Brenna Berman. I feel that the more women in tech are seen, we can inspire young girls and other women to see the possibilities and career (and business) opportunities that technology provides.
I'm smiling just writing these words because it's been a good week. The themes of technology and business and women seem to be at the center of my life no matter what I do. And that helps me realize that whatever that big picture is that I'm moving towards, I really feel like I'm on the right track.
What themes are you seeing in your life right now? What accomplishments have you celebrated this week? Hit reply and let me know so we can celebrate together.
On to the picks for the week!
P.S. Totally crushing on this song right now.

The Job of a CEO — theheretic.org
Heretic posts always get me thinking. It really comes down to a simple question: Do you want to be a doer or a leader? That's deep, right? As you start thinking about building a business, think about which role you want. You can totally still be a doer, but that might mean at some point, you'll have to hire a leader (or CEO).
One Simple Exercise To Recalibrate Your Life and Business — www.madevibrant.com
What can you do more of? Less of? Take some time to think about that and write it down. Caroline also mentions the Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte - which is a book about figuring out how you want to feel and then planning your life from there. I read it over a year ago so I think it's time to dust it off and read it again #becausefeelings. :)
