One of my promises to myself this year is, instead of reading FB first thing in the morning (which loses me many hours), to read my Substacks, Patreons, and mainstream media to which I actually pay money. Short-form reading that ends, not the eternal dopamine scrolling of the socials.
Thus, while I've been subbed here for a bit ... shamefully, this is only one of a handful of articles I've read.
And it's a good'un. I have had to accept that my little small biz is, indeed, a side-hustle. It's not the main way I make income, and it _can't_ be because I haven't priced my items for that. I've been trying to make it the main deal for nearly 10 years - it launched in 2014 - and it's still not.
I start a new full-time permanent role in a week's time and I absolutely cannot wait. No more hustling for the next contract. Safety and security. I feel guilty but why should I?
And your article nailed that feeling fair and square and vindicated me. I feel better. I do. (Amazing how such small affirmations work!).
And I adore the idea of tips and tricks. Like your text replacement in the iPhone, which is actually a pretty good concept and I might indeed look into it! Love to hear more, will gladly suggests more if I can remember any ...
Hi Fiona, I love the idea of reading Substacks first thing in the morning - I may try something similar. :)
And I'm glad you really liked this newsletter. And totally get what you are saying about the side hustle. I see a lot of pressure to take your side hustle and make it full time. I get this question a lot and really I have decided that I like having my side hustle as a small thing because I do like my day job a lot and I do like having benefits and predictable income. I'm very happy that you start a new role in a week and that'll ease some things for you. Yeah no need to feel guilty, but I GET IT. Just tell yourself you are doing what's best for you at this moment in time. It doesn't mean things can't change later.
And I'm glad you like the new ease section - excited to continue experimenting with that and definitely let me know if there is anything you could use a tip or trick for! :)
I have an ease tip! I recently got magnetic hooks. I put one on the front door so I can hang them up as soon as come in and grab them on my way out. And I don’t have to look for my keys cause they are always in the same place! I also hung my wall calendar on the side of the fridge using a magnet hook. So no holes in the wall. 😊
