Yes yes yes. I really need to keep hearing what you write about side-hustles. I'm still trying to scale my side-hustle DOWN, after nearly a decade of trying to scale it up to be full-time (and not succeeding), and I'm still trying to get the balance right in my head. It's really hard, and i need all the help I can get, because I feel like a failure by accepting a really nice permanent full-time job at an organisation I've always wanted to work for in a job that uses my 30 years' worth of hard-won skillsets with people who respect those skillsets ...
Put like that, I now feel positively ungrateful. As well. Argh.
Brains are _stupid_.
Helpful thing for me and the resident Bloke has been putting a sticky whiteboard on the back of the laundry door. It's in the centre of the house, next to the kitchen, so we walk past it a billion times a day. On it is the shopping list and upcoming events and when the dogs need the next Cartrophen and when the ducklings hatched and what my side-hustle's doing next and what subscription services we're paying for at the moment ...
Both of us are, I suspect, a bit ADHD, and if information not's there in front of us, we tend to forget it. (Also, I'm deep in menopause and have the memory of a disintegration doily. I can barely finish a sentence at the moment and it's driving me insane). So this saves frustration of the "I TOLD you that last week!" kind.
Fiona, thank you so much for sharing. And please, please don't feel like a failure. Entrepreneurship comes in all shapes and sizes and I love that you have found a job in an organization that you really love.
Also yes, brains can be stupid for sure. I love this sticky whiteboard idea. Do you mind if I share your tip as a quote in an upcoming ease section?
When I mean “sticky”, it’s a contact-like adhesive-backed roll of film that’s designed to be a whiteboard. We’re lucky enough to own our place, so can use semi-permanent things like that. Won’t work in a rental setup. A solid-back whiteboard hanging from an over-the-door hanger will work there. Whiteboard markets and an eraser MUST be right there for use in multiple colours.
I bung sticky notes around the side as welll for other things, and currently trying to work out the best way to add the next 2 months in calendar layout.
Incredibly tempted to try and embed my antique iPad 1st gen with a permanent power supply with the calendar on permanent display, so we can create events anywhere and have them displayed there …
Eek! Excited to be mentioned in this week's newsletter! I hope your subscribers find magnetic hooks as full of #ease as I do. Thanks so much, Jess! Enjoy your weekend! 😊
