This week, I saw Rent for the first time ever as a live musical. I continue to be #solatetotheparty 😎 but sometimes I feel like there are certain things you need to experience at certain moments in your life. And maybe it was meant for me to see Rent at this point in my life in order for it to really make an impact. Which it did. It's not something I can quite put into words, but there was something transformative about the experience. If you're curious, it was amazing. My friend Kandice and I were all about the singing and the dancing and we both want to learn the choreography! 💃🏾 At its core, I feel like Rent is about not being afraid to live life, and how important family is - blood or not, and the impact that one person can make on the world. And the reality of dealing with life-changing things like homelessness and disease and homosexuality. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. And I will be checking out the movie version soon. In other news, I was able to support a friend and speak to grammar school kids about what I wanted to be when I grew up (which was a pediatrician) and the journey that I've taken to get to where I am now. And I started thinking through a couple of the lessons there and these come to mind:If you're trying to figure out what you want to do, experiment as much as you can. Each opportunity will help you know what you like and don't like. And you can take that information into the next opportunity and the next.Building quality relationships is vital. I was able to get my last two jobs through recommendations from people in my network. And the key here is that you never know where your next opportunity will come from.Money isn't everything. I took a leap leaving a job in my industry to pursue something I'm super passionate about. And while that also came with a pay cut, I have absolutely no regrets. And I am much happier. How about you? What did you want to be when you grew up? What are you doing now? What are some of the lessons you've learned along the way? Hit reply and let me know. On to the picks for the week!
