Shout out to Danielle Maveal for buying me coffee this past week! ☕️ Thank you!Danielle is all about community and in her weekly newsletter, Community Feelings, she shares best practices, guides and templates to help community managers build healthy, abundant networks.--Do you ever take time to rest but also feel guilty about taking that time? 🙋🏾♀️ Yep, that has been me for most of the week because of reasons. I felt sick for the last few days, and I also had a lot on my plate. I tried to work through it, but everything took three times as long to get done. For many days I just had to give up and rest. But then I felt terrible because nothing was getting done, and I just saw my task list increasing from one day to the next. My work is great, and my coworkers are incredibly supportive of resting and taking the time I need. Soooo why am I like this? Why am I still feeling guilty? Frankly, I think it’s the hustle culture, and this need to be busy and productive constantly. It’s also the strong black woman syndrome and being afraid to show any sign of weakness. It’s...A LOT. 🤦🏾♀️As much as I wish we could, we can’t just flip a switch and be better at prioritizing rest without feeling guilty and taking care of ourselves before we burn out. It takes time and practice, like any other muscle. But it’s hard. And I’m hoping we can talk about this stuff more. Let’s talk more about rest, yes but also the guilt that can come with that.Let’s celebrate when we can do it and feel an iota less guilty than the last time. Let’s share the not-so-happy bits so that we feel less alone with the hard stuff. This stuff is heavy, and I think we can lighten that load on all of us by sharing more.--I’m so happy to see so many of you signed up to get introduced to each other. I even “met” a new subscriber this week and looking forward to seeing who I’m introduced to next. Didn’t get a chance to sign up yet? Click here to build your profile and get weekly introductions every Tuesday to folks in the #jesspicks community. Also, I have one more spot available if you want to work with me this month. Think of it as having me as a Cheerleader in your pocket. If you are interested in learning more about that, hit reply, and I’ll send the info over. And what’s great is the offering is made so that both of us can work together and rest.To resting without guilt. 🤗On to the picks!P.S. You might like these.
