"You never have to ask anyone's permission to lead. Just lead." βπΎ~Kamala Harris
We have a President-Elect and a Black woman VP-Elect!! ππΎ I have to say, once I heard the news, I let go of a breath I didn't realize I had been holding for what seemed like years.
It is so great to have hope and optimism again and I'm looking forward to them taking office.
And sure it's not over yet, so we all need to continue to rest, take care of ourselves and find joy where we can (I'm personally excited to try these).
I have felt lighter this week in some ways yet exhausted in others. So thankful that I work with awesome folks who allow me to honor that and take breaks when I need to. I hope you are able to do the same.
Earlier this week, for our Lighthouse Squad mastermind group, I led a teaching session and shared some of the lessons and tips I've learned running #jesspicks over the years. It was a great session, if I say so myself and it was good to put some of the stuff that was in my head into a presentation.
And since the work of creating the presentation is done (and since my gurl Saya always tells us to recycle what we've spent so much time creating) I had the idea to turn this into a mini course of sorts. And you get to see it first! So if you are interested in starting a newsletter and curious about how to do that, or wonder how I do #jesspicks every week, you can check out the videos here:
Part 1: How I Started + What an Issue Looks Like
Part 3: Stats I Care About + Growth
Part 4: Monetization + Other Lessons Learned
Please let me know if you have questions or thoughts. You can leave comments on the videos themselves or just hit reply to this email. Hope it's helpful for you!

π Reading: Miss Mabel's School for Girls. When Facebook ads got wind that I like their book recommendations, I get them ALL THE TIME NOW. This week, this book caught my attention because: curses, dark magic, all the witchiness. π§ββοΈAnd it's a multi-book series. I am only a chapter or two in but it has my interest so far!
π° Tool: Ibotta. Love this app that helps me earn money from my grocery receipts, even Instacart. You pick your store, go through the list and add rebates for anything you purchased. Then scan your receipt and cha ching! Also! If you open Ibotta and click through to order from places like Uber Eats and Macy's you can earn cash back on those. I've earned almost $400 since 2017!
π± Insta: @illustriousvoices. My gurl Brandy has started this amazing project highlighting diverse voices (including mine!) and it's such a wonderful thing to see. She's in the process of adding more people, so give it a follow and stay tuned!

20 Things to Do Before the End of 2020 β inkandvolt.com
I was chatting with my friend Christine this week and we realized, hey 2021 is coming soon. It might be time to start thinking about that. π
This is typically the time of the year that I start slowing down, looking back, and looking forward to what's next. This post from Emily Morrow comes right on time.
Here are some of the things on my to-do list:
Think about long-term goals and what the future looks like
Celebrate accomplishments
Make something (I have two tiny LEGO projects to work on and puzzles!)
How about you? What's on your list?
This is how long your blog post should be β kevin.me
I don't blog all that often, but when I do, I always wonder if it should be 1000 words, 1500, because that's what they tell us right? Although I'm not sure who "they" are.
Here is another someone letting us know how long our blog post should be. I like Kevin's approach better. π€
What should your focus be? "Deliver the message."
