“You don’t have to wait until January 1st to change your life.” 💞 ~Michell C. Clark
keep grace in mind as you close out the year (#353)
Yesterday, I was planning to sleep in a bit and then roll out of my bed and walk three feet to my desk to start work like a typical Friday.
Narrator: it was not a typical Friday.
My grandma had other plans and woke me up with one of her terrible, very bad mood situations.
It be like that sometimes.
And to be honest, this week had already been A LOT. I was juggling more than usual while fighting allergies / a cold / something else.
My internal battery was already very low. 🪫
And then… grandma.
So even though I would have loved to stay in my room and work, I knew I couldn’t deal, so I got up and got ready to leave the house.
And since I realized I didn’t have to be online as early as I initially thought, I said, well, maybe I can do something nice for myself… 🤔
So I did - and took myself out to breakfast:
Could I have handled all that better / differently? Maybe? But really, at that moment, I did what I had the limited capacity to do.
Sure, my plan for the day got derailed, but I pivoted and took advantage of the situation to treat myself a little. I then focused the rest of the day on the few things that I could realistically get done, including finishing this newsletter issue.
And ultimately, both me and Grandma got the space we needed.

This life and the juggling thing we do can be challenging at times, and it’s so important to pause when you need to and check in to see what you need and have the capacity for.
Along with giving ourselves lots and lots of grace. We are human, after all. 💞
-
We are in the final weeks of the year, and I know some of us are trying to get as much done as possible, and others are slowing down.
I am in the “let’s circle back in 2024” camp and will take the next few weeks to wind down my work stuff and relax.
What capacity do you have right now? Do you need some space? Can you treat yourself?
Check-in with yourself, see what you need, and finish the year in a way that works best for you.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. #jesspicks will be back in 2024. 👋🏾
